The New Yorker Book of Baseball Cartoons
Published in Hardcover by Bloomberg Pr (May, 2003)
Authors: Robert Mankoff and Michael Crawford
Average review score:

Humorous home runs and base hits - no strikeouts!
Everyone will find favorites in this collection, whether they are about kids and baseball or overpaid, over-egoed pros. One favorite part for me is the running motif of umpire jokes. The New Yorker's cartoonists are simply the best. I loved The New Yorker Book of Golf Cartoons, but this is even better.

Not Just Cheesecake! the Low Fat Low Cholesterol Low Calorie Great Dessert Cookbook
Published in Paperback by Triad Pub Co (June, 1988)
Authors: Marilyn Stone, Shelley Melvin, Charlie Crawford, and Gail Kauwell
Average review score:

Low-fat & low-calorie, easy delicious recipes
This is a wonderful cookbook featuring delicious & nutritious recipes. Most recipes are easy-to-make & use common ingredients. All are low in fat with no recipe containing more than 4 grams per serving.

The author starts out by explaining the miracle of yogurt cheese & how to make it. She also discusses other ingredients & how to make the recipes even healthier. Nutrition information is provided along with dietetic exchanges.

Recipes include dips, spreads, appetizers, salads, dressings, snacks, chilled soups, & breads. Many varieties of cheesecake, cookies, cakes, pies, puddings, frostings, & fondues are also included.

There are even recipes for many flavors of frozen yogurt that only require a blender. Some of my favorites are the crescents, soft pretzels, & no-cook cucumber soup. I also enjoyed the scrumptious oatmeal kiss cookies.

On Board: Guiding Principles for Trustees for Not-For-Profit Organizations
Published in Paperback by Western States Art Foundation (April, 1991)
Authors: Robert W. Crawford, Bridget Beattie McCarthy, and William D. Weiss
Average review score:

An invaluable book for every not-for-profit orgnization.
This book describes how to select board members, establish their responsibility, and structure board activities. It is easy to read. The section on board member responsibility sets high standards for every aspect of board participation, yet it recognizes that interest in each area varies by board member.

I Keep Going Back to It
I got this book as a gift when it was first published. It is a compendium of all those useful tips you see once and say, "That's a GREAT idea!" It covers all the bases and is current and timely. Buy it for yourself or your mother-in-law!

Pet Animals
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (March, 1991)
Authors: Lucy Cousins and Crawford
Average review score:

Great for small babies!
This book RIVETED my 3-month-old baby. We'd prop the book open to give him tummy time, and he'd stare at each page for minutes on end. When he got a little older, we'd make the sounds for each animal. This book includes a nice selection of pets: mouse, guinea pig, cat, rabbit, two kinds of dogs, lizard, parrot, fish, hampster, and canary. I recommend getting the whole set of four in this series: Country Animals, Farm Animals, Pet Animals, and Garden Animals.

The Physics and Technology of Tennis
Published in Paperback by Racquet Tech Publishing (01 December, 2002)
Authors: Howard Brody, Rod Cross, and Crawford Lindsey
Average review score:

The truth about tennis rackets
Don't buy your next racket until you read this book. This book, by 2 physicists and a tennis specialist, sets forth what they have found scientifically about tennis rackets and technology. The book takes considerable concentration to mine the lessons learned for your game. But here are a few of the nuggets I found:
1) All rackets have essentially the same power!
2) Stiff rackets vibrate less and feel better.
3) Soft strings and lower tension feel better.
4) String tension has little effect on power.
5) No one knows how to measure "control".
6) Perimeter weighting drastically reduces shock.
7) Backspin groundstrokes are easier to hit than topspin, but have much less tolerance for error.
8) Stand inside the baseline when receiving a slow serve and bash it at the netman. He'll have no time to react.

On the downside, the authors should have done a much better job of summarizing the findings. The chapters are written in sort of a mystery fashion, where you have to wait until the end to get the lessons. The first book by Dr. Brody did a much better job of summarizing the findings for the general tennis player.

Finally, a book that helps you sort through tennis rackets! Unfortunately, the authors conclude that your skill and arm make the difference in how good you are. No racket will take you directly to Flushing Meadows.

Pirate Plunder's Treasure Hunt: A Pop-Up Whodunit
Published in Hardcover by Dutton Books (September, 1996)
Authors: Iain Smyth and Jacqueline Crawford
Average review score:

Magnificent
We have all three of Iain Smyth's Pop-up Whodunits, and all of them are excellent! Pirate Plunder's Treasure Hunt is very good. A crime has been committed, and you have to figure out who did it. They show all the suspect's baggage, personal items, and background. It even has a pop-up ship the so-called "The Scurvy Dog" and you can look through the windows and lookouts. The best part is it has three different sets of clues and solutions. You turn a wheel and the clues and criminal change. This is and excellent book for all pop-up or light mystery lovers!

Planet Earth (Time-Life Student Library , Vol 1)
Published in Hardcover by Time Life (August, 1999)
Authors: Time-Life Books and Jean Crawford
Average review score:

a easy to read refrence
I use multiple copies of this text in my fifth grade class to teach landforms, and weather. This book is way better than any textbook I have ever seen. Each topic has full color pictures, and easy child friendly text. The key vocabulary words are in bold print, and the index makes for easy finding of information. The hard back has kept up well in my room this year, as it is treated like the other text books I issue the students (we all know what happens to those). I could not be more pleased with this book. I highly recomend this book to anyone researching physical science.

Poultry Breeding and Genetics
Published in Hardcover by Elsevier Health Sciences (01 January, 1990)
Author: R.D. Crawford
Average review score:

The number 1 book on Poultry genetics
Crawford's Poultry Breeding and Genetics is the definitive collection of information on this subject. It is well worth the cost as it contains informaion you would spend years trying to collect from other sources if it could even all be found. It is divided into logical sections (for each kind of poultry) on form, color, deformities, and disease resistance. Beyond listing dominant and recessive genes, it goes into a description of how the gene affects the bird or bird part to produce the desired effect. It discusses which breeds usually carry each gene. It cites the person and the study that came up with the information. It is not a book for people new to the mechanisims of heredity, so if you have forgotten that you need to review it first. Crawford assumes you understand the the vocabulary and workings of genetics already.
